Barn Conversion Continues
Work on the barn conversion at our timber manufacturing facility is progressing well.

The timber frame structure has now been insulated using a high-performance system from Actis, designed to provide year-round comfort by helping to retain warmth during the winter while reflecting excess heat in the summer.
The barn conversion is insulated with honeycomb structured Hybris, an insulating breather membrane and insulating vapour control layer manufactured by Actis. These innovative products help to create a highly effective building envelope that improves thermal performance and energy efficiency.
The honeycomb design of Hybris insulation ensures the cavities between the structural timbers are completely filled, helping to minimise thermal bridging and reduce heat loss. Meanwhile, the reflective vapour control layer regulates internal temperatures, keeping the building warmer during colder months and helping to prevent overheating as summer temperatures continue to rise.
This approach supports the fabric first principle, enhancing the building's thermal performance through its construction before relying on heating or cooling systems.
As well as delivering excellent performance, the Actis insulation system is quick and easy to install. The panels can be cut accurately and fitted neatly between the timbers, reducing material waste while potentially cutting installation times by up to 30% compared with other insulation methods.
Externally, the barn has now been clad in black timber, giving it a traditional agricultural appearance that complements the surrounding rural landscape while providing a contemporary finish.
As work continues, the conversion is steadily transforming into a high-performance, energy-efficient building that showcases the benefits of modern timber frame construction combined with advanced insulation technology.
